Mayrhofen - a hiker's paradise
Guided Walks
From Monday to Friday between the end of May and mid-October, Thomas Huber, an
accredited mountain guide, leads mountain walks into the upper Zillertal free of
charge. In June and September the Tourist Board
offers an Alpine Farming & Timber Industry, Tourism and Conversation' walk. This
is a special walk which is led by the Forestry Commission. In July you are
invited to join Thomas and mineralogist Walter Ungerank for an 'Geological
Walk'.
Z-Tickets
The Z-Ticket provides free travel on all forms of public transport in Tariff
Region (Zillertal and Inn valley from Rattenberg as far as TerfenslWeer), the
Zillertal open cable cars and free admission to the valley's open-air swimming
pools. Reductions at many leisure facilities and family availability make the
Z-Ticket particularly attractive. Buy two adult tickets and children up to the
age of 15 travel free. The Z-Ticket is available at the station in Mayrhofen and
at the Penken and Ahorn lift with 6-, 9- and 12- day validity.
A variety of sports
Mayrhofen has many other sport and leisure facilities to round off its
offer. A great opportunity to unwind is supplied by the Mayrhofen
Adventure Pool, Erlebnisbad' with aqua slides, crazy river, sauna,
solarium etc. Mountain-biking, rafting, paragliding, hang-gliding,
canoeing, tennis, squash, fishing etc are all activities not uncommon to
Mayrhofen. Action-Club Zillertal has a different outlook on walking. Try
canyonirig - the new experience walking, climbing, jumping and sliding
down the gorges Valley.
Or learn to fly with the Ziller Valley Paragliding school, Zillertaler
Flugschule'. After only 6 days you will be able to fly on your own from the top
of the peaks. To experience the freedom and the excitement of paragliding its
also possible to book a tandem-flight and get by ,air taxi` from the mountains
down to the valley. The Zllertaler Flugschule' also offers hiking-tours,
climbing, rafting, canoeing, canyoning and barbeque evenings at mountain huts.
Children's programme, music, catering, accommodation
Children can look forward to the Mayrhofen Children's Programme organised into
different age groups. Abundant choice for all - drawing, singing, biking, visits
to farms, a trip on the old Ziller Valley steam train to name but a few of the
activities, The Mayrhofen Information has its own children's counter where the
young guests get a welcome present and can borrow games. The village is also
famous for its lively nightlife and talented musicians who play modern and
traditional music can be found in almost every restaurant and bar. The catering
