Summer
in Mayrhofen - a hiker's paradise

Breathe in the clear, healthy mountain air, explore the magnificent natural
backdrop one piece at a time and refresh yourself with pure mountain spring
water ... this is what relaxation in Mayrhofen is all about. For over 150 years
Mayrhofen's unique mountain backdrop has been attracting hikers from all over
the world. The resort stands at the head of the Ziller valley, from where four
gorge-like upland valleys (known as Grunde) fan out: the Zillergrund, the
Stillupptal, the Zemmgrund and the Tuxertal - the first three are part of the
protected "Zillertaler Hauptkamm" recreation area. Acquaint yourself with the
natural beauty of the 3,000 meter-high Zllertal Alps via the 200 kilometers of
maintained and signposted footpaths. Mountain bike, paraglider, kayak, raft or
horseback are some of he other ways of getting around on this fascinating voyage
of discovery.

Mayrhofen - the resort
Mayrhofen sits at an altitude of 630 meters and is situated
at the gateway to the Ziller valley alps, where the Ziller
valley divides into its four side valleys; the Zillergrund,
Stilluptal, Zemmgrund and Tuxertal. It's reputation is as
one of the most traditional resorts in the Tyrol.
The hiking
For over a century Mayrhofen has been well known as the
ideal starting point for rambles and climbing tours among
the Ziller Valley Alps and can be justifiably called "a
hiker's paradise". The resort has many mountain trails
connecting to a network of over 200 km of well-marked and
well-kept paths. Two cable cars make the ascent easier and
the high alpine views accessible to the less energetic. The
new hiking ticket, the "Z-Ticket" is valid on all lifts of
the Ziller Valley and by choice most of the transport
resources. Further enjoyment is guaranteed by the inclusion
of swimming pools in this pass. A free service of the
Mayrhofen Tourist Association is its programme of guided
walks into the surrounding Alps.

Worth seeing is
the Ziller Valley Trust Park "Zillertaler Hauptkamm". This
protected area of 372 square km was officially designated a
Trust area by the Tirolean government in 1992. In planning a
but to but tour over several days it would be wise to cast
an eye over the relief map in the Europahaus.
Adventure tours with Mt. Everest Climber Peter Habeler
Mayrhofen born Peter Habeler, who together with Reinhold
Messner was the first to climb Mt. Everest without the use
of oxygen, runs the local mountaineering school and brings
the more adventurous to the highest peaks of the Ziller
Valley Alps, as well as running climbing courses for
children and youths, glacier safaris and tours including an
overnight stay in an alpine hut. More
