The brilliant development of skiing
Kitzbühel is a breeding
ground for legends. There is no other place in the world that
has more medal winners than this region: a small city with great
success.
The impressive record of success
of the Kitzbühel Ski Club: With alpine skiers Toni Sailer,
Christian Pravda, Anderl Molterer, Ernst Hinterseer, Hias Leitner,
Hansi Hinterseer and Nordic combination athlete Klaus Sulzenbacher
as well as cross-country skiers Maria Theurl and Markus Gandler,
no less than 47 Olympic and World Championship medals were won-
18 of which are gold ! The Kitzbühel Ski Club, host of the
annual Hahnenhamm race, can look back on a long history and development.
In the winter of 1892/93 the first ski tracks were made on Kitzbühel
slopes by legendary Franz Reisch.

The
history of the Kitzbühel Ski Club began in 1902 with a meeting
to found a free "winter sports association".
The first Hahnenkamm race was
held in 1931. In the years since the founding to today the Kitzbühel
Ski Club has managed to make a big name for itself in the world
of skiing thanks to the successful athletic achievements of its
members as well as its organizational services.
Today, with about 3,500 members,
it presents itself as one of the oldest and also most successful
ski clubs in Austria. And the end of its success is nowhere in
sight.
