The
Skiing in depth...
www.skiaustria.com,
Everything you need to know about
holidays
in Alpbach.
For
skiers, Alpbach features about fifty kilometers of prepared slopes,
and is skiable to just
over two thousand meters. The Wiedersberg, the highest and main
skiing area is reached
by a modern new gondola just a few minutes from the village center.
Here one
will find mostly decent intermediate skiing terrain with some
easier and some more
difficult stuff thrown in for good measure.
Much
better skiers for example can enjoy the FIS downhill run from
the top of the
Hornboden, as well as the Brandegg, a shorter test of skills
that runs from the
Gmahkopf lift. The rest is good recreational stuff that should
suit most punters.
Beginners
will find their playground without the slight inconvenience of
the journey to the
main lift. Their little paradise is right in the heart of the
village.
For
those with experience and a bit more confidence, the previously
mentioned Wiedersberg
area opens up the run to Inner Alpbach as well as a return to
your original starting
point.
However
before one comes down to either of the two points, it is both
advisable and enjoyable
to explore the area served by the lifts on top of The Weidersberg. Here
wide open
skiing mostly of moderate difficulty will make you feel and look
like a
world beater instead
of the weekend warrior you probably are.
As
well one must not forget that we are referring to a complete
valley here.The immediate skiing
for Alpbach is also connected from Reith im Alpbachtal. The limited
skiing area here can
serve as your jump off point for the main Alpbach lifts. Between
Reith and the main lifts you
will also find the lift at Koglele, a self contained little
area that also connects to the mainstream skiing. Back on the
main ski sections a new
project is being readied for the
Standkopf section of the mountain. This will open
up skiing possibilities to 2228 meters, and assure more wide open
spaces to play
in.
Snowboarders
are discovering the delights of Alpbach as well and at least
one of the
village's 3 ski schools offers snowboarding lessons.
Alpbach's
well rounded reputation for skiers includes cross country buffs
as well. The
best area
for kicking and gliding your way to paradise is Inneralpbach.
